Directly confronting gun culture and violence, the traveling exhibition American Roulette presents its provocative artwork in Las Vegas at Core Contemporary. The American Roulette is on exhibit until Saturday, Jan. 8, with the closing reception planned later that evening.

No need to background this interview any further … except to say that, however unlikely it sounds to many, artist and gallery owner Nancy Good believes you can extract the issue of gun violence from its hot broth of politics and passion, to look at it through a different, urgently nonpartisan lens: art. “The Bang Bang Project #4,” an oil on canvas painting by artist Cesar Conde, is part of an exhibit examining gun violence in America. Especially timely, with shootings in Chicago up 24% over last year, murders up by 5%, the jarring exhibit, “American Roulette,” runs thru July 18 at Epiphany Center for the Arts, 201 S. Ashland Ave.
