Michelle Graves
Michelle digressed her 2019 research on the lack of data surrounding school and mass shootings, thanks in part to legislation like 1996’s Dickey Amendment, to the simple embodiment of two lives and a gun between them. Her work freezes the silent moment between chaos and the ending of a consciousness. That idea is manifested in her work A Life is a Life, made up of blood spattered canvases, created by shooting through pig hearts, and the wounded organs encased in resin.
